This song is over 100 years old and still as true today as ever! Guitarist Jeff Healey take a crack on the trumpet on this number. Brilliant piano solo from Maestro John Royen on the stride piano. And again, Mellor always sounds like he might fall off the edge of the mountain, but never does. Always passionate and powerful. Killer rhythm section too. This number is often a set-closer for Alex as the change into the second tempo is really exciting!
lyrics
After You've Gone (Creamer and Layton)
Now won't you listen honey
While I say.
How can you tell me that you're going away?
Don't say that we must part.
Don't break my aching heart.
You know I loved you dear for many years,
Loved you night and day.
How can you leave me?
Can't you see my tears?
Listen while I say....
After you've gone and left me crying,
After you've gone there's no denying,
You'll feel blue and you'll feel sad.
Baby miss the bestest pal you ever had.
There'll come a time, now don't forget it.
There'll come a time when you'll regret it
Someday when you grow lonely.
Your heart will break like mine and you'll want me only
After you've gone, baby, away.
After I'm gone, after we break up,
After I'm gone, you're gonna wake up.
You will find that you were blind
To let somebody come and change your mind.
After the years we've been together.
Their joy and tears, all sorts of weather.
Someday when you grow lonely,
Your heart will break like mine, and you'll want me only.
After I'm gone, after I'm gone away.
You'll miss your red-headed Mamma, after I'm gone.

Stellar playing from an artists/artists who really have internalized this form of jazz and play from their hearts with sensitivity and passion. Alex Pangman
The indefatigable bassist Jen Hodge knows music and she knows how to play some great grooves and melodies. Dardanella is one of my faves on this album. Alex Pangman
This album of original music is amazing from start to end. You'd never know it wasn't written in 1931. Transcontinental is brilliant, The arrangements & Laura's singing are so in the style and fresh! Alex Pangman
